The Best Places to Visit in the Ireland in April

April is spring in Ireland, with daylight hours increasing drastically from January, making for a great time of the year to explore Ireland's countryside and doing both indoor and outdoor activities.

If you would like to visit the recommended places in Ireland below (or anywhere else) your way, it is worth knowing that Global Highlights customized trips are highly-rated on Trust Pilot. Let us know your interests and requirements and we'll make the best of the weather and local tourism resources.

For visitors looking to plan a trip to Ireland in April, we suggest spending some time in Dublin, heading over to Kerry, visiting Galway, and checking out the famous Cliffs of Moher, some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world.

1. Explore Dublin and Tour the Game of Thrones Studio

Dublin is the perfect spot from which to take a round-trip tour to the Game of Thrones studio. The studio is home to original sets and plenty of interactive activities and displays for fans of the TV show. Afterwards, explore Dublin Bay which is home to some stunning cliffs, reminiscent of those in the show.

In the later afternoon or early evening, we recommend heading on over to the Guinness Storehouse for a Guinness tour. You'll be able to hear all about how Guinness is made, to see some of the iconic brewery, and to learn how to pour your own pint properly.

The center of Dublin is perfect for an evening stroll and to find somewhere to eat dinner, or to find an Irish pub to settle in for a night cap. You can tell the bartender all about everything you learned at the Guinness Storehouse earlier!

2. Hike in Kerry's Killarney National Park

Check the weather ahead of time, and make sure that you've scheduled to visit Kerry's Killarney National Park on a dry day. This is one of the most beautiful national parks in the country, and the world, but it can be a little wet (all year round).

If you are into hiking, there are lots of breath-taking hiking routes in the park. For a short trail that is moderately difficult, we recommend the Torc Waterfall Trail. But if you'd like to take on a more difficult route that takes around 4 to 5 hours, there is also the Muckross Lake Loop. For an easy walk, check out the Ross Castle Loop which take you to a beautiful castle by the water.

If you prefer to bike, there are bikes routes too, which is an amazing way to cover more ground in the park and see more. There is definitely something for everyone, and Killarney National Park is a must-visit.

3. Walk around Galway's Eyre Square

On the west side of Ireland, you will find the harbor city of Galway.

This is a great city to discover on foot, with plenty of sightseeing in the city and nearby area. For more information about what to see, we recommend checking out our piece about visiting Ireland in January.

4. Stand on the Edge of Europe at the Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher and its surrounding park are an absolute must-see while you are in Ireland. These are some of the most beautiful cliffs around, and there are beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean from there. A visit at sunset is recommended, because of the beautifully-colored skies that can often be seen.

Geurin's Path is a great little walk to get to the views, and we also recommend visiting the O'Brien's Tower. There is also an animal park nearby — the Moher Hill Open Farm and Leisure Park, if you are traveling with your family.

On the southern end of the Cliffs of Moher, we also recommend visiting Moher Tower, the stone ruins of an old Napoleonic-era watchtower, built in the early 1800s in order to protect Ireland from invasion during Napoleon's reign in Europe.

Low Season: Less Expensive and Less Crowded

April is a quiet time of the year to visit Ireland (its peak tourist season is around June through to early September), with lower costs for travel and accommodation, and fewer crowds around the sights.

April is a great time of year to visit Ireland, but with so much to see, it can be tricky to put together your ideal itinerary. If you need help, Global Highlights' experts can tailor-make a trip to your needs and wants. Just let us know when you're going and what you'd like to see, and we'll send you a suggested itinerary and quote! Contact us to begin a tour inquiry.

The only exception in April is Easter, when there are more crowds as a result of regional school holidays. The Easter weekend in 2025 is between 18 to 21 April in 2025 (school holiday 14–25 April). Due to it being a public holiday some smaller shops and smaller restaurants might close, and we recommend calling ahead to ensure the place you want to visit is open.

What to Wear in April

April can still see some colder weather, particularly in the early mornings or in the evenings, or if you are hiking up in the mountains. However, because there is also the potential for warmer days, we recommend bringing versatile clothing in case you hit a warm day. Bringing a couple of layers makes it easier to dress warmer or colder depending on the weather on the day.

For those hiking, we recommend bringing supportive hiking boots and walking poles. An umbrella is also not a bad idea to help you stay dry, given that places like Killarney National Park can be rainy all year round.
