Egypt Regional Weather in February
February sees many fewer rainy days than January, and you'll likely get only sunshine in Cairo and Giza.
Alexandria is the city with the most rainy days in Egypt, but even there, you'll likely get sunshine for the bigger part of the day regardless of a little bit of rain.
Location | Min. Temp. | Max. Temp. | Rainfall |
---|---|---|---|
Alexandria | 9°C (48°F) | 19°C (66°F) | 27 mm (1 in) |
Cairo (and Giza) | 11°C (52°F) | 21°C (70°F) | 4 mm (0.2 in) |
Luxor | 8°C (46°F) | 26°C (78°F) | 1 mm (0.04 in) |
Aswan | 12°C (53°F) | 26°C (78°F) | 0 mm |
Hurghada | 12°C (53°F) | 24°C (75°F) | 1 mm (0.04 in) |
Sharm el-Sheikh | 15°C (59°F) | 24°C (75°F) | 0 mm |
In terms of temperatures, these are averages so visiting at the end of February will guarantee you temperatures closer to the maximum temperatures listed above, while visiting in the beginning of the month might be a little cooler still.
Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, and Sharm el-Sheikh, further south from Alexandria and Cairo, are a little warmer in February already, although if you're planning to go on a beach-only holiday to Egypt you might want to wait a couple more months for the weather to warm up more.

Best Places to Visit in Egypt in February

February is a really pleasant month for sightseeing when it comes to the weather, and we definitely recommend making the most of this by visiting Alexandria, Cairo, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan.
Ideally, you need at least 10 days to visit the above-mentioned cities. You could check our Egypt Itineraries for 10 Days, 12 days, 14 days and 21 days for inspiration.
1. Cairo
As Egypt's capital, Cairo is generally the place best to start your trip to Egypt. February is a great time to explore Cairo, as it will not be too hot during the day.
The city has a lot of sightseeing to offer, including the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar, and Muizz Street, which is a great place to take in some of the traditional architecture.
See our handpicked itineraries including Cairo for various durations: 5 days, 7 days, 8 days...
2. Alexandria
Egypt's second biggest city is full of historical sights to visit, and a great place to learn more about Egypt's importance in the Mediterranean.
Being located by the sea means there is a little more rain there than in other cities in Egypt, but February is still a good time to visit with mostly sunny days and only a little rain on a few days.

3. Luxor
Home to many of ancient Egypt's treasures, Luxor is a great city to visit in February as the temperatures are not as sweltering as they are in the summer, making it much more pleasant and easy to visit sights such as the Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings.
February is thus a great time of year to explore Egypt's temples, ruins, and tombs!
4. Aswan
Located in the south of Egypt, Aswan is known as a spot to start off (or finish) your Nile river cruise, and February is a good time of year to do this.
The temperatures aren't as high as they are in the summer, and it'll be pleasant to be on the water at this time of year. You don't have to worry about rain in Aswan in February (or at any time really!).

Crowds and Cost
February is less busy in Egypt than January, meaning it is slightly less crowded and also less expensive, with February falling just on the end of peak season (December and January).
Prices for hotels especially will be a lot lower, and you might also see a difference in both international and domestic flight ticket prices.
This means February is a great time of the year to visit, as popular tourist sights like the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Valley of the Kings will be less crowded with tour groups.

What to Wear in Egypt in February
With temperatures still dipping slightly lower in the evenings in February, you'll want to make sure you have some additional layers on hand.
For example, we recommend bringing a coat or a jacket for Cairo and Alexandria if you are looking to head out in the evenings, and we recommend bringing a light jacket or fleece for Luxor, Aswan, and the coastal cities.
During the daytime you'll likely not have to wear it, especially if you're visiting at the end of February when temperatures are 4°C (7°F) higher than early February.
A visit to Alexandria might require an umbrella, but once you venture down to Luxor and Aswan you'll want to make sure you have sunscreen and a hat as you'll be looking at blue skies and sunny days with high UV.
