Yom Ha'atzmaut 2025, or Israel's Independence Day, will begin in the evening on  Wednesday, April 30, and continue to the evening of Thursday, May 1.

Yom Ha'atzmaut is a Hebrew term meaning Independence Day. The event is celebrated to commemorate the country's independence on May 14 in 1948. It holds significant importance for the people of Israel, marked by official ceremonies, such as the flag-raising at Mount Herzl, as well as unofficial celebrations with performances, singing, and dancing in the streets.

When Is Yom Ha'atzmaut in 2025?

In 2025, Yom Ha'atzmaut will begin in the evening on Wednesday, April 30, and continue to the evening on Tuesday, May 14 (Hebrew calendar days begin and end at sundown). May 14 is the main day of the event.

The date of Yom Ha'atzmaut is based on the Hebrew calendar, which takes place on the fifth day of Iyar, the second month in the Hebrew calendar. However, in certain years, the festival date may be one or two days before or after to avoid it coinciding with a Sabbath.

The day before Yom Ha'atzmaut is Yom Ha'Zikaron, a day dedicated to honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.

Ha'atzmaut 2025 Events — How It Is Celebrated?

Celebrations of the event start as the sun sets on April 30. On that evening, there are official ceremonies at Mount Herzl and performances in the streets of cities and towns. The next day (May 1) is a holiday, during which most Israelis will go on outings, such as picnics or hiking.

Wednesday, April 30: the Eve of Yom Ha'atzmaut

As the sun goes down, the ceremony will begin on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The Israeli flag is raised ceremonially. Then, there are performances and the ceremonial lighting of 12 torches, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel who represent the beginnings of the nation. This event marks the transition from Yom Ha'Zikaron to Yom Ha'atzmaut.

In cities and towns across the country, there will be fireworks displays, performances, and shows on the streets.

Thursday, May 1: Main Day of Yom Ha'atzmaut

The main day of Yom Ha'atzmaut is a public holiday. Most Israelis choose to spend their time having picnics in parks with their families or going hiking. The day features a thrilling display of military planes flying overhead. Tel Aviv's beaches are the best place to view this spectacle.

In addition, a special parade showcases floats adorned with vibrant decorations. The parade routes are adorned with Israeli flags and slogans. The crowds, including families, tourists, and local communities, gather around the parade route to watch the parade. There are also shows and music performances in the streets.

Other activities during this time include the International Bible Contest, also known as "Chidon HaTanach", and the prestigious Israel Prize ceremony.
