"Hi, I'm Carol, your Travel advisor at Highlights Travel Family. As a local born and raised in Guilin, China, a must-visit for any first-timers to China, I've been exposed to the international tourism industry my whole life. Naturally, after graduation, I became a local tour guide to impart my unique understanding of local culture to international travelers and help them appreciate my beautiful hometown."
I later transitioned to the role of a travel advisor at China Highlights, where I have been working for over 15 years, serving more than 3200+ travelers. This has taken me to most destinations in China, including 'remote areas' like Tibet.
These experiences have broadened my understanding of local values and customs in each place in China, enabling me to offer insightful guidance to my customers to create unique and authentic experiences tailored specifically to their preferences and budget.
My Specialty
My expertise encompasses a wide range of destinations in China, including Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Chengdu, Zhangjiajie, Chongqing, Yangtze River, Huangshan, Harbin, and more, as well as remote areas like Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Silk Road, and Inner Mongolia.
I specialize in designing tours for couples, incorporating romantic elements such as private boat rides, secluded romantic dinners, authentic Chinese cuisine experiences, plus relaxing activities like spa treatments and couples' massages.
As a mother to a boy, I excel at planning family tours that cater to children. I adeptly choose family-friendly destinations and select the optimum accommodations that suit the entire family. In planning the itinerary, my priority is to ensure a balanced blend of cultural, educational, and recreational activities guaranteed to keep all family members engaged and collectively enjoying quality time. Moreover, I consider the family's travel style a crucial aspect when planning — whether they prefer a relaxed pace or a more fast-paced itinerary.

My Travel Highlights
One unique travel experience that comes to my mind was the time when I visited mysterious Tibet. During my visit to Tibet, I had the opportunity to stay with a local Tibetan family for a few days.
The family lived in a traditional Tibetan house, which was made of stone with a flat roof. The interior of the house was decorated with beautiful Thangkas (traditional Tibetan paintings) and prayer flags, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
What impressed me most was when I could participate in their daily activities. I helped the family with cooking and cleaning, and even got to milk their yaks! It was an incredible experience to learn about their way of life and be a part of their daily routine.
Another unforgettable experience was the opportunity to be exposed to the family's religious beliefs and practices. They were devout Buddhists, and I was able to witness their daily prayer rituals and even participated in a meditation session with them.
Overall, my stay with this local Tibetan family was an unique and enriching travel experience. I will never forget the warmth and hospitality that they showed me, and the opportunity to learn about their culture and way of life. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will always cherish.

No crowds, breathtaking scenery in winter low season
![]() Having had a wonderful experience with China Highlights who organized our 17-day Silk Road trip in October 2024, we had no hesitation in choosing China Highlights again for our short 4-day trip to Zhang Jia Jie after New Year's Day. Our travel advisor was Carol Wang and she quickly came up with a proposed itinerary for us through email after hearing our initial requirements. We had read trip reviews of other visitors to Zhang Jia Jie and there was a lot that we wanted to see. Being greedy, I asked if we can add this and add that (e.g. Baofeng Lake, Yellow Dragon Cave) to the itinerary and Carol was able to shuffle things around to accommodate us. Carol didn't just blindly do everything that we asked for however, but gave us her expert opinion as well. For example, some visitors we had read had said that Yellow Stone Village (Huangshizhai) is "unmissable" but when I asked Carol if she could add it to our itinerary, she told us that yes, she can do it if we really have our hearts set on it, but advised that it will add an extra half-day to the trip and that the scenery will be very similar to that from the National Forest Park which is already on our itinerary for Day 2. Although the view from Yellow Stone Village observation deck is undoubtedly breathtaking in its own right, seeing the same vista twice in two days (just from different directions) can feel repetitive and boring. I am glad that I listened to her advice and skipped it. This is the sort of honest opinion that we need from good travel advisors. More
